The word LOVE has come to mean many things to many people. We say, “I love my new car” and we say, “I love that new movie”, and we also say “I love the special person in my life!” Some of us even say we love our pets!
While we as pet owners say that we love our pets, some of the people around us who don’t have pets say, “It’s just an animal, how can you possibly feel Love for them?” My answer has always been the same. “Until you have a pet, develop a bond with it, train it and spend time doing things with it, you will never understand, but its like having a child.
Between friends and myself, Ive been around dogs for more than 40 years. I’ve had several pets of my own over the years and I’ve always had a great bond (relationship) with them. When “the time” eventually came with each of them, it was always a very hard thing to say goodbye.
This Wednesday will mark the one year anniversary of the passing of Neka. She was a very healthy and active seven year old German Shepherd. She was a shelter dog with issues when I got her at the age of three.
It took us a little while to bond because she didn’t trust humans and didn’t trust other dogs. We spent a lot of time together and she learned to trust me. I spent countless hours showing her that people could be nice and that other dogs could be a source of great fun.
Over the course of several months we became good friends and eventually the best of friends. Through mutual trust and respect we developed an unbreakable bond. The trust and love we shared made it possible for her to get over her issues and it made her a great companion.
So the answer to the question: “Why do Fools Fall In Love” at least in my case is, because the daily joy that love brings is worth more than the pain of loss when God calls them home!
