Why Should I Get My Dog Used to a Dog Crate?
If you don't mind coming home from a hard day on the job or at the office and finding that your dog decided to "go" on the carpet or use your favorite slippers as a chew toy, then crate training is probably not for you.
If you are like most people, then using a crate to train your dog properly will be time well spent. Proper crate training will take some time and effort, but it is a proven way to help train puppies or dogs who act inappropriately in certain instances. It is also a necessity if you plan to travel with your pet in anything other than the family car. In fact, you should really use a crate in the family car too.
If you have a new dog or puppy, you can use the crate to limit his access to the house until he learns all the house rules, and it can also serve as a "safe place" for your dog until it gets used to it's new surroundings. A crate can also come in very handy if you take him places where he may not be welcome to run freely. If you properly train your dog to use the crate, he'll regard it as his safe place and will be happy to spend time there when needed.
